On December 5th, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Chattanooga will welcome new members into the congregation. This twice-yearly service contains a special welcoming ceremony for people joining the church. It’s a time when we recognize our growth and our connectedness.
If you have considered becoming a member of the congregation, this would be a good time to make your commitment to liberal religion in Chattanooga. Please speak to Cecile DeRocher or the Rev. Jeff Briere as soon as possible to learn what is entailed as a member of the church.
Christmas Concert
On December 5 at 4:00 pm, the Scenic City Chorale, directed by Bill Long, will perform Christmas Vocies and Brass at Brainerd United Methodist Church on Brainerd Road. Written for both voices and brass, the Chorale will join with the SilverBrass Ensemble from Collegedale for this concert. The Chorale consists of approximately 80 voices all of whom are from this area, including our own Skip Stevens. The SilverBrass Ensemble, under the direction of Patricia Silver has 16 pieces. The compostion that will be performed by the combined groups is based upon traditional Christmas music. This concert is free to all.

Kwanzaa, Swahili for first fruits, is a time to remember the past and plan the future. Created in 1966 as part of the civil rights movement, Kwanzaa is a non-religious celebration which honors African Americans. Like Uni-tarian Universalism, Kwanzaa is based on 7 principles. The first day’s principle, celebrated on December 26 is called umoja, unity. Come join with other members and friends to celebrate our unity and learn more about this unique American festival with a potluck brunch. Bring Christmas/Chanukah/Solstice leftovers or cook up some-thing new!
